Role of the editor-in-chief in improving the review process

Scientific review in journals is performed under the supervision of three figures, namely editor-in-chief, reviewer, and author. The editor-in-chief applies his/her scientific opinions on the articles in two stages:

1) Initial screening of the articles

2) external peer review

Role of the editor-in-chief in improving the review processGenerally, after the initial registration in the journal, each article should be reviewed by the editor or editorial staff in terms of the following criteria:

  • Non-submission of the article to the same journal
  • Non-submission of the article to the same publisher’s journals
  • Lack of more than 10 percent textual overlap
  • Absence of defects in the main files of the article, including cover letter, word file, figures, etc.
  • Lack of defects in the article sections, including abstract, references, materials and methods, etc.
  • Checking the language and editing quality
  • Controlling the identity of the authors and their affiliation
  • Examining the scientific content of the article and the appropriateness of its topic with the subject matter of the journal

In case of observing a problem in any of the above criteria, the article should be returned to the author by the editor orbe rejected promptly.

It is worth noting that the more accurately papers are screened at this stage, the less workload will be entered into the review process, and time will not be wasted.

Appropriate and on time screening is the keytoaccelerate the review process of the manuscripts.
