Detection and prevention of publishing articles with plagiarism has become one of the major concerns of international journals. Based on the publication ethics, “publishers” are responsible for the detection of this violation and prevention of the publication of articles with plagiarism.
This issue has been taken into consideration with the increasing number of scientific papers in developing countries in the past decade. With the growing importance of the quantity of articles in developing countries over the past two decades, the use of other researchers’ findings in articles has been increased. It has been even observed that authors opt for data falsification based on the previous articles rather than performing an experimental study.
Accordingly, there is an increasing concern regarding the detection of the extent of using other scientific documents in the articles. Several software packages have been developed to detect the overlap of the articles with other scientific documents.
In the following, we will introduce some of the most widely used plagiarism checking software packages, which are only used for English language: iThenticate, TurnItIn, Viper, Plagiarism Checker, Plagiarism Detect, Plagiarisma, and Duplichecker.
Unfortunately, there is no reliable software for the Persian language yet.
